Probably the worst software out there
Probably the worst software out there
Pros
During my time at Omnicom agency, everyone was on the same page about how Hive was lacking basic features. It seemed like they rushed new, poorly planned features each week, mainly in response to complaints, and this led to frustrating bugs that wasted our time. After using it throughout 2022 and moving on to a new job in 2023, I'm happy I no longer have to use Hive..big relief!
Cons
One thing I really noticed was that basic functions like cut, copy, paste and undo were missing. If a software doesn't have these, I would strongly advise you to avoid it. It felt like the developers didn't really do their homework, leaving out many standard features. For example, something as simple as a total count of comments in a route when reviewing a WIP deliverable was missing, which made it really frustrating to track progress. Counting out 70 comments manually just to inform the team was a waste of time, though they later added this feature. But that's the problem: they were constantly reacting to complaints by adding features week after week. This showed poor planning and bad programming. The thing is, every new feature added risked introducing new bugs, and I found myself wasting 2-5 hours a week just documenting and working around those bugs. We couldn't rely on the software anymore. Some of the bugs were just mind-boggling: in the timeline list view, all the days of the week would randomly disappear. They fixed it after a week or two, but the issue persisted in previous timelines. Another time, client reviews would randomly drop to the bottom of the timeline, and I had to drag them back into place. And then there were the times when the team review routes would freeze. The status would say "reviewing," but the person wasn't actually reviewing. Sometimes, they hadn't even received the notification to review, and I had to delete and re-enter reviewers just to get things working again. Even worse, the bug started messing with reviewer data, like inserting my name in a role I didn't have. I could go on and on with these issues, but ultimately, I had to write up a report for our agency to retire Hive. However, getting rid of it wasn't going to be easy since it had been purchased for every Omnicom agency. Honestly, it reminded me of a previous project where we inherited incomplete software and the code was so poorly done that we ended up having to trash it and start over.

Pros
The smart analytics feature on Hive is fantastic. It allows me to track my progress, performance and productivity while providing helpful insights and recommendations based on machine learning.
Cons
One issue I've faced with Hive is that the task dependencies feature either doesn't work or isn't available. I can't create dependent tasks or link them together, which is a crucial part of project management for me.
